Over the Counter Medication Policy

Illinois State Law:

  • Non-prescription medication will NOT be provided by the school district.
  • Non-prescription medication requires a District Medication Authorization Form signed by a physician and a parent/guardian.
  • Non-prescription medication must be brought to school in the manufacturer's original packaging. (Please provide a small bottle with the student's name marked clearly)
  • If a primary-aged student finds it necessary to take their non-prescription medication that they have provided at school, and a District Medication Authorization Form is on file, the school office will call home first before it is dispensed to them. The parent will need to give school personnel verbal permission.
  • Documentation of the phone call will be made.
  • If your child had medication(s) in the office this school year, arrangements must be made for pick up before the end of this school year. Please keep in mind that no medicine will be sent home with the student.
  • Any medications left after the last day of school will be discarded. It is District policy to dispose of any medications left at the end of the school year.
